Good Entry Level Gimbal Camera
Feiyu Pocket 4K camera is a good entry level gimbal camera. It is lightweight and very compact. It has only three buttons, including the on/off switch. Each of these buttons control a number of functions, which can be a bit confusing when you first start using the camera. The small touchscreen is used to adjust settings. Swiping the screen in various directions gives access to various menus and sub-menus. Some practice will be required to be able to manipulate the camera smoothly whilst fiming. Camera can also be linked to a smart phone, using an easily down loaded app. This allows the user to control the camera and view images remotely. The app also provides access to firmware updates and some short tutorials.

Feiyu are a major provider of gimbal systems for conventional cameras and have used their knowledge to produce what is essentially an extremely stable hand held 'steadycam'. The gimbal action is very smooth and eliminates the jerkiness that is experienced when using conventional cameras or mobile phones to capture action scenes. The camera also has a choice of follow modes, which can be adjusted for sensitivity.

In video mode the camera can be used in a number of resolutions up to 4K and has slow motion and time lapse settings. In camera mode it can set for single shot, time lapse and panoramic photography. Within the menus and sub-menus, there is the facility to adjust various camera parameters in order to obtain the optimum results. For instance, whilst there is no dedicated night shooting mode, the ISO and shutter speed can be adjusted in 'Professional Mode' to compensate for low light. The user will need to experiment in order to obtain the best results in different conditions. Camera can easily be returned to default settings with a single action.

Camera comes with a protective carrying case, optional wrist strap and charging cable. It also has standard tripod bush in the base. Feiyu also market a number of reasonably priced accessories that can be attached using this feature, including clamps and 'selfie sticks', which increase the versatility of the camera. One accessory that I would recommend is their 'Portable Foldable Time-Lapse photography Bracket mini gimbal tripod' This is basically three small feet that fold out to provide a stable base for the camera, which is essential when using the timelapse and panorama settings. When not in use they can be folded in and extend the length of the camera body by just over 3" (80mm). Those with larger hands will find that it enables them to get a better grip and have better access to the cameras controls.

It should be noted that the camera has no zoom facility, so is more suited to close in photography. There is no provision for an external microphone. Whilst the internal microphone is adequate, be aware that it will pick up up noise from the camera itself. There is also no built in memory and user will need to provide a high speed micro SD card. Feiyu recommend a micro SD card with a speed of U3 or above with a maximum capacity of 512GB. Whilst cheaper brands are available, SD cards that meet this specification from the more established manufacturers can cost in excess of £100. Like everything else you get what you pay for! Prospective buyers should take this additional cost into account when considering this product.

Camera comes with minimal instructions, but a more comprehensive manual can downloaded from Feiyu. Tutorials and other useful videos are also available online.

Marketed primarily for the vlogger, the Feiyu Pocket 4K might also find favour amongst current 'action camera' users. As noted above, it will take practice to become fluent in the use of the camera's features, but the user will be rewarded by the resulting images.

Price might seem prohibitive, but it is still cheaper than some other comparable cameras.
