I'm still a newbie in photography but one thing is for sure everyone who has any idea about it and has already had a lens like this under no circumstances wants to give it away again, even buddies who have been taking photos for years, also professionally, have one like this. Photos of it are the absolute hammer that's fixed!

bought this lens almost 10 months ago because of the many positive reviews on the web and in specialist magazines. The lens is used on a Canon 5D. I have to say that I have not regretted the investment until now! It takes very nice sharp pictures. Definitely better than my EF Zoom lens. Although you have to say that with f1.4 you have to be very careful where the focus is. Simply taking a picture is not possible mmn. But from f2 the pictures get better and better & at f8 there is nothing more to complain about. The colors are very lifelike. If you have practiced a bit, which I had to, then this fixed focal length is a lens that brings a lot of fun to photography. You yourself are the zoom and you have to think about how and where you stand in order to get the picture you want. Rethinking is required! With f1.4 everything can be cut out beautifully and especially at sunset (my favorite time of day to photograph) beautiful scenes can be captured with it. At 50mm, this lens is somewhat unusual for landscape photography and is more at home in portrait photography. But I think it's an all-rounder with which you can photograph everything (e.g. in churches without a flash). And it's more "back to basics" than the high-end L series lenses with various stabilizers. You just have to invest a little more in an image to get the desired result. In addition, it is light, small, handy and unobtrusive (an advantage in street photography). I would recommend this lens to anyone looking for a medium prime lens but don't have the money for the L version or the better Sigma f1.4. I can't compare it to the 50mm f1.8 as I've never held this lens in my hands. But, as they always say, "you get what you pay for". So I think the f1.8 can't be better than the f1.4.

The 50 f/1.4 lens is really good value for money, delivering excellent image quality for the price

It was worth it => finally really sharp photos, even with enlarged sections. But note: not too open aperture, so from at least 4, better 5.6 the full sharpening => earlier reviews of other authors are correct. Use the lens on the Canon 600D. That is also part of the success. I don't get this quality on the 400D. Enthusiasm for close-ups without the need for a special lens. And then playing with the clear target object in front of a color-blurred background => class and::: the portrait at the party in the evening, even with an open aperture of 1.4, is still good, without a flash drawing the photographer's attention.. Supplement: you need NATURAL NOT JUST this lens. The wide angle, when I'm standing directly in front of the church and can't go any further back, or the telephoto for great distant motifs. BUT: the Canon EF 1.4/USM 50mm is almost always on. Important: the lens hood Canon ES-71 II. See my review. It's expensive, but I only buy it once, everything fits, then the price is forgotten.

bought the EF50mm primarily for street photography and am extremely satisfied with the performance in this area. Amazingly, this lens is actually sharper than the 50mm from the Canon L-series at an aperture of 5.6. The aperture of 1.4 and the associated light sensitivity is very pleasant. However, with an aperture of 1.4 you have to deal with a decent decrease in sharpness and - especially for indoor shots - with clear chromatic deviations. The bokeh is very nice and soft. Something special. The autofocus is fast, accurate and also quiet! The weight of 350 grams makes this lens a welcome lightweight in the bag and on the body. The price is unbeatable. You get a really good lens for everyday use for your money. Conclusion: Compared to the much more expensive 50mm from the Canon L series, I would always use this variant. My purchase recommendation for street and snapshots etc. if you don't absolutely need a red ring!

This lens is a MUST in photography. I myself am a beginner and take photos with a Canon EOS 1100D. The price/performance ratio is great and the pictures are really impressive. I can wholeheartedly recommend this lens! Super fast delivery with the express delivery I had the lens in my hands the very next day.

got the Canon 50mm 1.4 because I couldn't get any further with normal zooms. I previously had the 24-105mm F/4 and then switched to the 24-70mm 2.8 due to the poor light output. In the long run, that's not enough for me either. I missed the minimum depth of field and also the light intensity on the Canon 7D. Despite the relatively high light intensity of 2.8, I couldn't offer that. I did a lot of research and came across the Canon 50mm lenses. There were 3 variants. 50mm 1.8, 50mm 1.4 USM and 50mm 1.2L. I decided on the 50mm 1.8 because of the good reviews and got it straight away. After trying it I was a little disappointed. The processing and the speed of the lens were not really right. I didn't buy the 50mm 1.2L because I think it's quite expensive for a hobby. Although I wasn't sure if the quality of the lens justified the almost 4 times the price. That's why I took a look at the 1.4er and ordered it directly. Processing: The delivery was quick as always and it was time to unpack. As soon as I picked up the lens, I knew right away. It was different from the 1.8. It was more robust and stable, although some of the materials stayed the same. Unlike the 1.8, the 1.4 had a metal bayonet. The processing alone is worth the money. Image quality: The focal length on the Canon 7D is 80mm according to the 35mm format and is already a light telephoto. Nevertheless, one has hardly any difficulties to find motives. What you immediately notice in the first picture with an open aperture is the beautiful bokeh. That was a WOW effect at that moment. That wasn't so pronounced with the 1.8. The bokeh was almost round. So I thought to myself, what would that look like with a full-frame camera and a 1.2 if that's really nice. The light intensity is just phenomenal. So far I had never had a lens that was really that bright. You can still shoot handheld in the evening and still get decent pictures at the same time. With an open aperture, the lens has small problems. It could happen that not the whole object is in focus. But that only happens when you open the aperture fully. From f/4 it starts to get really sharp. Some report vignetting. But I can't really confirm that because of the CROP. Another important reason to buy it was the auto focus. The autofocus on the 1.4 was far faster than the 1.8, but it doesn't quite match the 24-70mm 2.8L. As I have learned from other reviews, it is a micro USM and not a ring USM which would be even faster. Conclusion: Simply a very great lens. The 50mm 1.4 is slowly becoming my favorite lens. The light intensity is simply indescribable for the price.

Amazing quality lens!!! I am new to the world of photography and have been told by my friends who are professional photographers that this is the right lens. I have both the 50mm f/1.8 and 50mm f/1.4 and I really like this lens the most. I've taken some very nice shots of animals and people with this lens. The clarity of this lens is fantastic and once you understand the triangle of light when shooting, the possibilities with this lens are endless. It's not a zoom lens so get ready to move your feet :) It's a very nice prime lens and if you're a beginner like me this is a must have in your collection.

Must not be missing in any photo backpack. I am very spoiled by my L lenses, e.g. 100mm 2.8 L IS USM, 70-200mm 2.8 L IS USM II. The 50mm can keep up well from aperture 2.8, it is really depth-of-field from aperture 5.6 to 11. Aperture 1.4 makes no sense at all , the center is not big. Optics 5 stars, AF USM 5 stars, performance 5 stars. You should order the lens hood at the same time, you need it anyway. To avoid damage to the focus, you can simply leave the lens hood on at all times. I also tested the plastic cup 50mm 1.8. I wasn't happy with that (optics 0 stars, AF 0 stars, performance 3 stars). It's better to save money and buy the 1.4 right away, that's a lot more fun.

Since I'm just familiarizing myself with photography as a Hobette and can't yet show a particularly large wealth of experience as far as other lenses are concerned, I don't want to leave much out. But compared to the kit lenses that came with my Eos 700D (Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM and Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM), you notice a clear one difference in image quality. Can only recommend the part!
