Crystal clear and sensitive
The K&F Concept wireless lavalier kit I reviewed consists of 2 plastic rectangular microphone transmitters, a multi-device receiver, mono headphones, a 3.5mm stereo extension cable, a carrying case, and a USB-C charging cable. The mics have a clip on the back for attaching to clothing, but due to their size and weight, I've found them to pull out my shirt pocket when clipped onto it. Remedy is easy, clip it to the inside of the bag instead. The actual microphone itself is on the top of the device, and inside is a sponge to reduce wind noise. The microphones have the Power On and Mute buttons on one side, a USB-C charging socket on the other side and status LEDs on the front. The receiver has a 3.5mm jack on top for connecting to a computer or camera and a Lightning connector on one side and a USB-C connector on the other for mobile phone use. There's also a 3.5mm headphone socket and a USB-C socket on the bottom, the latter of which is used to charge the receiver, but it can also be used to charge a mobile phone if one is connected. I should point out that there is no “Audio over USB” connection from this jack. On the top of the receiver is a power switch and a small LED that glows red when charging, turns off when fully charged, and glows green when connected to a microphone. When the receiver is connected to a mobile phone, the sound from the phone is disabled. However, audio can be monitored via the headphone jack on the bottom of the unit and the power button double-clicks to select one of three audio output levels. The number of beeps audible corresponds to the selected output level, with one being the lowest. Despite the fact that there are 2 microphones, everything is in mono. If you plug stereo earphones into the receiver, the audio will still be heard in mono, as will the recorded audio, whether you're using your phone's USB port or a jack on your computer. I found the sound quality to be very good, it's clear there's no noticeable background hiss unless you turn up the gain in the recording app and the recessed position of the mic and the use of foam material should reduce wind noise, although I did haven't tested that yet. The product is described as having 26 hours of battery life, although I wonder if the receiver will have the same stamina when plugged in just via the 3.5mm jack. The advertised audio lag is low at 15ms and I had no issues with lip syncing when running a simple selfie video test with my phone. The specified wireless transmission distance is around 120m, which is very good. The only downside of this product is the high price, but it is a quality product.
