If you use this to see if there's someone out there in the dark, would it give away your position based on that person's IR illumination?

It actually gives away your position. Some of the illuminator's light is far in the visible, red part of the spectrum. It's not a small amount. It almost looks like a red flashlight. Despite that, I still like it because of the price, but it is NOT for camouflage
